Zia Trust cases: Khaleda won’t appear before court today

Risingbd.com :BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not appear before the court on Monday in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitabe Trust graft cases.Khaleda Zia’s lawyer advocate Sanaullah Mia on Sunday night confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.Sanaullah Mia said that Khaleda Zia will not appear before the court as she is not fully fit to go the court and she will seek its deferment order in the cases.On August 10, the court permitted Khaleda Zia to go abroad to take treatment. Later, the BNP Chairpersonleft the country on September 15 and returned home on November 21. Earlier, Khaleda Zia did not appear before the court on November 26, December 3 and December 10 showing the cause of illness. On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, for abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources. ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid, also an investigation officer of the case, pressed charges against the accused on January 16, 2012.Besides, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
