Court Correspondent :
The jail authorities yesterday could not produce BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in a Dhaka court in coalmine graft case as she expressed ‘unwillingness’ to appear.
The jail authorities wrote this on the custody warrant presented before the Judge ASM Ruhul Imran of the Special Judge’s Court-2 of Dhaka on Wednesday.
Judge ASM Ruhul Imran placed the summons on Khaleda Zia, now in jail, and 10 others to produce in the court on Wednesday.
However, Khaleda Zia’s counsel Masud Ahmed has told newsmen that his client could not come to the

court due to her illness. Hearing the submissions of both sides, the court fixed April 9, as the next date for hearing.
Earlier on October 5, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) pressed charges against Khaleda Zia and 15 others in the Barapukuria coalmine graft case.
Seven persons, including former Finance Minister late Saifur Rahman were dropped from charge sheet after their death.
On February 26, 2008, the ACC filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station accusing 16 persons including Khaleda Zia and ten of her former cabinet colleagues of taking Tk 159 crore as kickbacks in the Barapukuria coalmine deal awarded to the highest bidder.
