On behalf of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, a lawyer yesterday filed a petition seeking punitive action against six witnesses in Zia Orphanage Trust graft and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases on the charges of making fake documents and giving false testimonies against the BNP Chief.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali filed the petition with the Special Judges Court of Bakhshibazar in the city on Wednesday.
The six witnesses are: Harun-or-Rashid, Abdul Barek Bhuiyan, Mostafa Kamal Mojumdar, Tawhidur Rahman Khan, Syed Jaglul Pasha and Majed Ali.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore forming an alleged “fake” Trust which existed only on paper on July 3, 2008.
Later, on August 8, 2011, the anti-graft watchdog ACC filed another case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on charges of abusing power in setting up Zia Charitable Trust.
