BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has urged all to unite under the BNP-led 20-party alliance to launch a tougher movement against the government. “The people want to be free from the misrule and misdeeds of the government. We have to save them from the cruel government,” she said at an Iftar party on Wednesday.
Saying that the 20-party alliance is united, she asked the leaders and workers of the alliance to be ready for taking part in the tougher
movement after the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, forgetting petty differences.
Jamaat-e-Islami hosted the Iftar party at Hotel Sonargaon in the city in honour of political leaders and noted persons. Jamaat nayebe ameer Prof Mujibur Rahman received the BNP chief and other guests. Leaders of the 20-party alliance, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, LDP chairman Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed, Islami Oikya Jote chairman Maulana Abdul Latif Nejami and president of Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa) Shafiul Alam Prodhan, joined the function. Among the noted persons, Poet Al Mahmud, former DU VC Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed and journalist Shafik Rehman also joined it.
A munajat was offered before the Iftar praying for the release of the leaders of Jamaat and other parties, and peace and progress of the country.
Khaleda Zia said that the Awami League forcibly grabbed power and continue to remain power through use of force. The country is now passing through a critical moment. The government has ruined the economy. There is no rule of law in the country. No one is safe in the hands of the government, she said.
The government, she alleged, is busy with looting, corruption, killing and abduction. It is using police and RAB to remain in power, she added.
