Awami League presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim urged BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to reorganise her party instead of creating anarchy in the name of movement.
“There will be no polls in Bangladesh prior to 2019. So, don’t create anarchy resorting to torching of properties in the name of your so-called movement. Otherwise, you will have to pay the price,” he said pointing at BNP chief. Mohammad Nasim said this on Wednesday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city. Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised the discussion in observance of the Democracy Seize Day at Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University. On this day in 2007, the army-backed caretaker government put country’s democracy into captivity by arresting Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina, now Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
BCL president HM Badiuzzaman Sohag chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by AL organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, former president of BCL Mahmud Hasan Ripon and former general secretary of BCL Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton.
Pointing at BNP leaders, Mohammad Nasim said, “You will have to concede seven goals like Brazil (in the just concluded FIFA World Cup) if you want to launch any movement. So, don’t sound any threat of movement. Remain cool-headed and extend cooperation to the government. Your threat for launching movement after Eid will never come true.”
The senior AL leader said, “Wait for 2019 for election. There will be no election in Bangladesh prior to 2019. In accordance with the constitution, the election will be held in 2019 under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. There’s no use wasting time in talks on the matter now.”
Instructing the BCL leadership, Mohammad Nasim said, “Those bad members of BCL, if there is any, should be axed from the organisation. Hundreds of Chhatra League leaders can’t shoulder the blame of a few leaders (bad) of the students’ body.”
