Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta on Monday urged BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to return to democratic politics discarding terrorism and Jamaat to get relieve of her sins.
“It can’t be termed as movement what BNP-Jamaat combine did in the name of siege-hartal programmes over the past 92 days. I congratulate her (Begum Zia) for her decision for honouring the request of Shata Nagorik Committee to return to her residence, though late,” he said.
Suranjit Sengupta, a senior parliamentarian of the ruling Awami League, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion on current politics at the auditorium of Diploma Engineers Institution at Kakrail with its adviser Dr Khondokar Emdadul Huq Selim in the chair.
Convener of Dhaka City unit Samyabadi Dal Haroon Chowdhury and secretary general of Bangabandhu Academy Humayun Kabir Mizi were the discussants, among others.
Suranjit Sengupta said, “The whole nation heaved a sigh of relief on her (Khaleda Zia) return home. However, the burning odour of human-beings would not go from her body if the entire lot of Paris perfumes poured on her. She should visit those burn injured persons and to stay beside them.”
The senior Awami League leader said, “Begum Khaleda Zia should discard terrorism and Jamaat to get relieve of her sins and only then she could return to democratic and constitutional politics.”
Calling upon the Election Commission to complete the polls in three city corporations in a free, fair and neutral manner, he said extensive enthusiasm has already been created among the voters and contestants centring the polls to three city corporations but the ministers should be more careful in their remarks and then a healthy political atmosphere would return in the country.
