Arson case: Khaleda to surrender tomorrow

Court Correspondent :BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will surrender before a Dhaka court on Tuesday to seek bail in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station over petrol bomb attack on a bus that killed a man last year.Khaleda Zia is set to appear to the court of Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah of Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka on Tuesday, her lawyer Sanaullah Mia told reporters on Sunday.Earlier on March 30, the same court issued arrest warrants against 28 leaders and activists of BNP including Khaleda Zia after taking into cognizance of charge sheet in the case. The court also set April 27 for hearing the case.On May 19 last year, DB Sub-Ispector Md Jahidul Hasan submitted the charge sheet with the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, accusing Khaleda Zia and 37 others.With Khaleda, others those were served warrant include MK Anwar, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu, Azizul Bari Helal, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, former BNP lawmaker Salauddin Ahmed, Khaleda’s advisors Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Shawkat Mahmud, her Special Assistant Shimul Biswas and Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan.Of the 28, five accused are on bail and five are behind bars. Police filed two cases against 68 BNP-Jamaat men including Khaleda after the leaders and activists of the blockade programme hurled petrol bomb at a passenger bus at Jatrabari, leaving 28 people injured on January 23. Of the injured, 60-year-old Nur Alam died at a hospital bed on February 1, 2015.
