BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will pay homage to the Language Movement martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University (DU) campus at the first hours on February 21.
DU authorities gave the permission on Sunday as a BNP delegation met its Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office, BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB.
He said the BNP chief will place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on completion of state programmes,
marking the Shaheed Dibas and International Mother Language Day. The BNP delegation members include Amanullah Aman, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Nazimuddin Alam and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee.
A BNP leader, wishing anonymity, said the BNP chief will be allowed to go to the Shaheed Minar with maximum 60 of her party leaders. The BNP delegation wanted their 100 leaders to be allowed with Khaleda, but the DU authorities gave permission for maximum 60 leaders. February 21 will be observed as Shaheed Dibas and International Mother Language Day in recognition of the Bengali nation’s supreme sacrifice to the cause of their mother tongue. Earlier, BNP announced a two-day program to mark the day.
As part of the programmes, the party will arrange a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Monday afternoon.
