BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will finalise the party’s `election roadmap’ in London.
Party insiders said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had gone to London on July 15 for her eyes and leg treatment. She may stay there for about 45 days at the residence of Senior Vice-Chairman and her son Tarique Rahman.
The BNP chief will take some important decisions about the party’s election strategies on whether the party will take part in the next parliament election or not. The shape of the party’s new formula of poll-time government is in main focus in such strategy.
About some vacant posts in the party’s central committee and reorganising of some district committees are the main issues to be finalized, insiders said.
“The chairperson will stay in her son Tarique Rahman’s residence. They may discuss almost everything from their family matters to political and national issues,” BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain told The New Nation yesterday.
He said, “Some persons said that a portion of MP nomination seekers and other
post aspirants in the party had gone to London for lobbying. But, I don’t think that it is easy to meet party chairperson in London for those aspirants.”
Dr Mosharraf said the party chairperson always discusses important issues with Tarique Rahman over telephone when she stays in Dhaka.
Senior leaders raised their voice against the one-sided polls like January 5.
“Party men want to participate in the next polls, but not under the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The leaders and activists want to compel the government through strong movement to set a poll-time government soon,” said a senior leader of the BNP, preferring anonymity.
He also said the MP aspirants are working as a pressure group to make the party high-ups agree to participate in the next polls.
Some have gone London physically and others appointed lobbyists among the party leaders who live in the UK.
Though Dr. Mosharraf did not agree about party men’s lobbying in London, the other leaders said it is very important for those who involve race inside party with other competitors for same posts.
BNP senior leaders said that Khaleda Zia will disclose a formula over poll-time government after return from London. They are optimistic that the formula will be acceptable to the government.
