Khaleda, Tarique, Fakhrul, Mamunul, Babunagari sued over anti-sculpture remarks

A defamation case has been filed accusing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, her son party Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for making anti-sculpture statement.
AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, lodged the case before the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sotyabrata Shikder on Wednesday.
Besides the trio, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh chief Junaid Babunagari, joint secretary general Mamunul Huq, Senior Naib-e-Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim have also been made accused in the case.
On Monday, two more cases were filed against Babunagari, Mamunul and Faizul Karim for defaming Bangabandhu.
Mamunul and Faizul Karim strongly criticised the construction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s sculpture at a rally in Dhaka on November 13 last.
Mamunul warned the government that he would commit another ‘Shapla Chattar’ and threw away the statue unless the government abandoned its plan to construct it.
Meanwhile, Babunagari at a mahfil at Hathazari in Chattogram district in the evening of November 29 threatened to pull down all sculptures no matter which party erects them.
