AB Siddique, President of the Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organization, yesterday (Wednesday) lodged a defamation case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for making an alleged ‘defamatory statement’ about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the ruling Awami League.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abullah Al Masud heard the complaint and directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station in the city on Wednesday morning to submit a report on February 22 after investigating the incident.
On December 31, last year, the BNP Chief said that Bangabandhu wanted to be the Prime Minister of undivided Pakistan rather than leading the country to independence, the defamation suit docket says.
The BNP Chief came up with the remarks at the 38th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city.
Earlier, last year, several other defamation suits were lodged against the BNP leader in connection with her remarks about the number of martyrs during the war for independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
