Court Correspondent :BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday (Tuesday) submitted her written reply to the Money Loan Court-1 of Dhaka in a case filed for default of Dandy Dyeing Limited. Begum Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Ahmed Azam Khan submitted the written reply on her behalf while Judge Fatema Ferdous of the court fixed August 30 for submission of replies on behalf of other defendants. Meanwhile, the 11th defendant in the case, Kazi Galib Abdus Sattar, who is also a director of Dandy Dyeing Limited appeared in the court and sought time. The court granted his plea and passed the order if the defendants fail to submit their replies on the next scheduled date, the court will frame issue on that date. After submission of the reply, the BNP Chief’s lawyer has said that the loan was paid to Dandy Dyeing Limited and not to any individual. Besides, late Sayeed Eskander had signed the documents of the company. Late Arafat Rahman Koko was not connected with the loan and for that reason Begum Khaleda Zia could not be made responsible for this loan, he added. Khaleda Zia’s late son Koko’s wife and his two daughters along with the BNP Chief were made defendants in the case after Arafat Rahman Koko died in January. Meanwhile, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman Sithi and her daughters Zahia Rahman and Zafia Rahman went back to Malaysia after Koko’s burial in Dhaka. On March 16 this year, the court implicated the four defendants in the case following a move by the state-owned Sonali Bank Limited. On October 2, 2012, the Sonali Bank filed the case as the defendants failed to repay the loan, after issuing a final notice. The company had borrowed Tk 12.16 crore from the bank’s principal branch in the capital on October 16, 2001. The company failed to pay off the principal loan with interest, accumulated during 12 years, to Tk 45.49 crore.
