BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday filed a petition with the High Court seeking bail in a case filed under the Special Powers Act in connection with an arson attack in Cumilla’s Chauddagram upazila in 2015.
In the petition, Khaleda challenged a Cumilla court order that on September 13 rejected her bail petition in connection with the same case.
The HC is yet to fix any date for hearing the bail petition.
The case was filed under the Special Powers Act, 1974 for vandalising a covered van in Chauddagram area of Cumilla on January 25 in 2015.
Police submitted charge sheet in the court concerned against Khaleda Zia and 32 others.
On August 13 this year, the HC cancelled its earlier order that had granted six-month bail to Khaleda in the case.
On July 23 this year, the HC, however, directed the trial court in Cumilla to dispose of her bail petition in this case within seven days after receiving the order.
The High Court Bench of Justice A K M Asaduzzaman and Justice S M Mozibur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Khaleda Zia seeking bail in the case.
On July 25, a Cumilla court rejected the bail petition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the case. Then she moved to the High Court.
The BNP Chief has been in jail after being convicted by a Dhaka court on February 8 this year in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
