BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Tuesday once again filed bail petition with the High Court in Zia Charitable Trust case in which she was awarded jail sentence for seven years by a special court of Dhaka.
Her lawyer Barrister Kayser Kamal filed the petition with the High Court yesterday.
The lawyer said, the bail petition was filed on different grounds citing that she is 74 years old, was the Prime Minister for three times, also the jail sentence awarded by the trial court is short.
The High Court Bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice ASM Abdul Mobin may hear the case, added the lawyer.
Earlier on July 31 this year, the HC Bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman rejected her bail petition in the case considering gravity of the offence mentioned in the case.
A Dhaka court on October 29 last year convicted and sentenced Khaleda to seven years’ imprisonment in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on August 8, 2011.
The BNP Chief has been undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) since April 1.
