BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, facing arrest warrants in three cases, returns home on Wednesday completing her over a three-month visit to the United Kingdom.
Khaleda is scheduled to leave London’s Heathrow Airport for Bangladesh around 2am (BST) on Tuesday night by an Emirates Airlines flight, her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
The flight is expected to land at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 5:20pm on Wednesday, he said. Sayrul said BNP leaders and activists will gather in the airport area to receive Khaleda.
However, BNP has no scheduled programme to accord her a reception at the airport.
Meanwhile, a court in Comilla and two others here issued warrants for Khaleda Zia’s arrest last week in three separate cases. Speaking at a programme yesterday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said lawful action will be taken against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia after her return from London.
“Legal action will be taken against her (Khaleda) as there’ve are warrants for her arrest. We’ll take action as per law when the documents of the warrants reach us,” he said. At a discussion programme, BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed said the government is unlikely to make a blunder by arresting their chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He said Khaleda is returning home keeping her some treatment incomplete only to show respect for the law and court. “Our leader (Khaleda) will go to the court on the following day of her homecoming.
Khaleda Zia on July 15 went to London for receiving medical treatment and spending time with her family members there. The BNP chief on August 8 underwent a successful eye surgery at a hospital in London. She also celebrated Eid-ul Azha with her family members there.
