UNB, Dhaka :Strongly denouncing the arrest of her party’s senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday alleged that the government has intensified its repressive acts against opposition men in its last-ditch efforts to cling to power by force. In a statement, she also said, “The power usurper illegal government has been on terrible vengeance spree having failed to have public support in any way. Its vengeance has got exposed again through the arrest of BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy.”Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said plainclothes police arrested Goyeshwar from a house at Shiddheshwari in the city early Friday.Khaleda alleged that the government has arrested Gayeshwar and filed ‘false’ cases against nearly 100 senior leaders of BNP and its associate bodies to divert people’s attention to a different direction from the ruling party’s planned attack on her party men at Bakshibazar on Wednesday. She demanded the government withdraw all the ‘false’ cases filed against BNP men and unconditionally release Goyeshwar. The BNP chief termed the repetition of the government’s criminal attitude of police raid on her party’s Dhaka city unit convener Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel’s house on Thursday night. She alleged that the government has let loose the law enforcers and the ruling party cadres like criminals to suppress the opposition.Referring to Wednesday’s Bakshibazar violence, Khaleda said the way the ruling party armed cadres attacked BNP leaders and activists on the day it demonstrated that this ‘illegal’ government has initiated a barbaric spiteful war. “They’ve made people their opponents in this war. The chief of the current illegal regime herself is the mouthpiece of the current terror misrule. Vanity and greed for power are more favorite to her than Bangladesh.”The former Prime Minister warned that people are now ready to put an end to the illegal rule of the current regime breaking the shackles of misrule.
