Zia Trust cases: Khaleda pleads not guilty

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday told the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka that no one could give any evidence of her link with the Zia Orphanage Trust and she pleaded not guilty. She also demanded justice while submitting her self-defence in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
She gave statement after Judge Dr Md Akhteruzzaman of the special court read out charges
 and asked her whether she was guilty or not. While replying to a question, Khaleda Zia informed the court that she would place her self-defense statement in written format and submit a list of defence witnesses in the case.
Later, the makeshift court at Bakshibazar fixed November 30 for next hearing of the case.
On August 8, 2011, Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Model Police Station, accusing four, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from unknown sources. Meanwhile, she placed her self-defense statement in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
On July 8, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Model Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman, and four others of misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that had come as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
