BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said that the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was not going abroad on parole.
“Khaleda Zia has not agreed to go abroad on parole. So, what an English daily published in a report
is totally baseless,” said Mirza Fakhrul while addressing a function in National Press Club organised by a faction of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on the occasion of their Annual General Meeting (AGM).
DUJ (faction) President Quader Gani Chowdhury presided over the programme.
BNP Vice-Chairman and journalists’ leader Shawkat Mahmud, Jamat-e-Islami Publicity Secretary Professor Tasneem Alam, BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi, DUJ General Secretary Shahidul Islam, DUJ former President Abdus Shahid and Abdul Hye Shikder, DUJ leader Gazi Anwarul Haque, among others, were present.
BNP Secretary General said, “Khaleda Zia has not decided to go abroad on parole. But an English daily published the date of her departure. It is not authentic. It is yellow journalism.”
Mirza Fakhrul asked the media to be sincere about authenticity of news before publishing. He said a quarter is controlling media as per the government’s directives.”Fear grips the society now. There are panicked situations in the country. Many of the popular persons are refraining to join talk show in private television channels nowadays. Many of them are barred by the government. It is now hard to go to the people with truths,” the BNP leader said.
“After the so-called election on December 30 last year, many journalists have lost their jobs. Few journalists are well now, but most of them are jobless,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader condemned the Nusrat killing incident and the gang rape incident in Subarnochar. He said the rape incidents are increasing due to inadequate law and order situation in the country.
The BNP Secretary General asked the people to be united against the government to restore democracy.
