BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday claimed that their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia is seriously sick. She is unable to sit in her bed without getting help of others.
In this circumstance, he said, Khaleda Zia needs immediate bail to get better medical treatment.
“The government is trying to kill Khaleda Zia in jail by resorting to various tricks,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir this at a press conference at the
party chief’s Gulshan office. He said, “Khaleda Zia deserves bail in the cases she was convicted. But the government is depriving her of it.”
“The government is prolonging Khaleda Zia’s stay in jail by creating obstacles to her release applying various ploys. It is trying to interfere in the court and push her towards death in jail without treatment,” the BNP secretary general said. He said, “We think, the government is showing an inhuman attitude towards Khaleda Zia by depriving her of her legal rights.”
“It is also tantamount to violating the constitution,” he added. Mirza Fakhrul said, Khaleda’s sugar level has reached 10 to 16 points. Her diabetic is going out of control, though she is using insulin. Uncontrolled diabetes can take a serious turn any time.
He said the health condition of Khaleda Zia was deteriorating every day. Earlier, her left arm was frozen and now her right arm also being frozen.
The BNP leader said the government is also depriving Khaleda Zia of her right to receiving treatment only to kill her inside jail. He said their party wants the country’s apex court to grant bail to Khaleda Zia upholding her rights.
He also criticised the government for its double standard role regarding politicians.
“Convicted Nazmul Huda and several other leaders of Awami League can get bails, why cannot Khaleda Zia get it?” Fakhrul asked.
He warned that if the government does not release her for taking better treatment, they (government) would be held responsible if anything bad happens to her for lack of treatment.
Mirza Fakhrul also glorified the three-time former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as a freedom fighter and a protector of democracy in the country.
BNP Standing Committee Members Jamir Uddin Sircar, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice-Chairman AZM Zahid Hossain, Chairperson’s Advisers Monirul Haque and Abdul Qayyum were present at the press conference.
