Zia Trust case: Khaleda moves HC for changing judge

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday filed a petition with the High Court seeking a new judge to hear her Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Khaleda’s lawyer Jakir Hossain Bhuiyan filed the petition with the bench of Justice MD Shawkat Hossain and Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder, said her lawyer Mahbub Uddin Khokan.
The HC will hear the petition on Monday, said the lawyer.
Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of Dhaka Special Court-5, is currently hearing the case.
On March 8 last, an HC bench shifted the Zia Orphanage Trust graft to the court of Senior Special Judge Quamrul Hossain Mollah from that of Special Judge’s Court-3 Abu Ahmed Jamadar following a petition.
On April 26, the BNP chief filed a petition with the High Court seeking its order to again shift the case to another court from the existing one.
On May 14, the HC ordered the transfer of the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case to another court from the Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka following the petition.
Besides, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21. 0 million (2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
