BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday expressed deep shock at the death of legendry Bengali actress Suchitra Sen. In a condolence message, Khaleda said Suchitra Sen was a constant bright star in the film arena of this subcontinent.
“A pall of gloom descended on the entire Bangla-speaking community with the demise
of Bangladeshi girl Suchitra Sen who was an extraordinary actress of many supper-hit movies in the Kolkata film industry,” she said.
The name and fame Suchitra Sen earned as an actress through her innovative acting will ever be remembered, the BNP chief added. The fame she achieved through her long-term heart-touching competent acting will impress all the Bangla-speaking people for a long time, she further said.
Khaleda prayed for salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members, and her fans and well-wishers. Suichtra Sen breathed her last on Friday morning at a Kolkata hospital at the age 83 after fighting for life for more than three weeks.
Known as the Greta Garbo of India for leading a reclusive life after she left films in 1978, Sen who was an iconic star of regional Bengali cinema had not been seen in public or photographed in the past three decades.
Sen teamed up with Bengali star Uttam Kumar to form a popular pair that delivered a series of hits in Bengali movie industry for over two decades.
Meanwhile, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also prayed for salvation of her departed soul and expressed his profound sympathy to the bereaved family members and her fans and well-wishers.
