UNB, Dhaka :
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia leaves here for London on tonight for better eye treatment and celebrating Eid-ul-Azha there with her family members.
Khaleda Zia is scheduled to leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for London in a flight of
Emirates Airlines around 9:30pm, said her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan on Monday.
He said, the BNP chief will start her joinery from her Gulshan residence around 8pm for the airport. Khaleda’s personal secretary Abdus Sattar and some family members will accompany her during the London tour, Sayrul added. Senior party leaders will be present at the airport to see her off.
This will be her second trip to London since she left office in 2007 as she visited the UK in 2011 to meet her eldest son Tarique Rahman while returning home from the USA. Party sources said, Koko’s wife and two daughters are also scheduled to go to London in a day or two to celebrate Eid with other family members, including Khaleda.
It will be the first reunion and celebration of any Eid festival together of the Zia family members since 2008.
Khaleda has been celebrating Eid festival alone in the country since 2008 as her two sons and their family members had been staying abroad. However, Koko died in Malaysia on March 24 this year. Earlier on Sunday night, Khaleda had a meeting with her party’s senior leaders at her Gulshan office ahead of her London visit.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said, “Our leader (Khaleda) will go to London on Tuesday night for her eye treatment. She will also stay there for some days to pass time with her eldest son Tarique Rahman and other family members.”
Party sources said, joint secretary general M Shahjahan will look after the party’s organisational activities in coordination with BNP standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy during the party chief’s stay in London. Meanwhile, the next hearing on the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases against Khaleda Zia is scheduled to be held on September 17 in the Dhaka Special Judge Court-3. The BNP chief’s counsel Mahbubuddin Khokan said Khaleda’s presence in the hearing is not mandatory as her lawyers will represent her.
