Imprisoned BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has directed her party leaders to continue peaceful movement till success is earned.
“Our Chairperson Khaleda Zia has directed us to continue peaceful movement avoiding all kinds of provocations,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday.
He said it in front of the gate after meeting Khaleda Zia in the old Central Jail on the Nazimuddin Road in the city. A delegation of BNP standing committee led by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met Khaleda Zia at 3:00pm.
It was the leaders’ first meet with Khaleda Zia after she landed in the jail on February 8.
The members of the delegation included Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We found our leader Khaleda Zia with high morale. She is sound in health and strong. She never worried about her own, but is thinking for the country even in jail.”
The Secretary General accused the government of sending their leader to jail in a false case.
“The truth must be exposed once. We are fighting both legally and politically to free her from jail,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He said, “Begum Khaleda Zia told us to tell the people that she is well. She is firmly ready for any kind of sacrifice for the country, democracy and the people.”
Two of the standing committee members of the team said that the prison officials stood close to them while Khaleda Zia talked with them in jail.
A Dhaka Special Judge’s court sentenced Khaleda to five years jail in a graft case.
