BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has underscored the need for a national unity to keep the integrity of country’s independence and the democracy safe.
“But still there is an effort to make the country a puppet state. Conspirators from home and
aboard are working to destroy our heard earned independence, sovereignty and democracy. That is why national unity is needed to protect the country from their clutch,” she said in a message on Friday.
The BNP chief issued the statement on the occasion of the Independence Day 2016.
In the message, Khaleda Zia said that the countrymen fought valiantly during the War of Independence in 1971 to build a democratic country free from misrule and exploitation. “But, a fascist and autocratic force stands in our way to achieve the goal,” she said.
“Our democratic journey and efforts to gain economic progress have been affected. Our sovereignty has also been weakened due to the conspiracy,” said the BNP chief.
“We, all the countrymen, will have to remain alert to keep our country well protected from such conspiracy,” she added.
