Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday alleged that BNP leader Khaleda Zia is trying to create such a situation that will put her in power.
“They’re trying for one thing….somebody will come and put her in the throne,” she said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Awami League, marking the Victory Day at Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh.
She also said nobody will come to put her in the magical chair. “That hope is far away…those from whom you have the expectation, they won’t respond to your call either, you’ve tried but they didn’t come,” she said without elaborating further.
The Prime Minister asked Khaleda Zia to practise the democratic norms if she really believes in democracy.
She said, AL always fight for establishing the rights to vote and food taking people with it. “We’ve established the right to vote in the country, no one will be allowed to play dark and drakes with the rights of people’s vote.”
Mentioning that AL always keeps its confidence in people, Hasina said the AL government has worked for people, for their welfare and development. “That’s why we never lost faith and confidence in people, and people are our main source of power…I believe in that,” she said.
The PM said she has the confidence that people will reelect her party inn the next election. “If we’re voted to power again, will be able to continue the trend of development. Or else, war criminals, rajakars, al badrs and killers will commit genocides as they did in 1971,” she added.
The Prime minister said her government has already started the trial of war criminals following the trial of August 15 killings. It is continuing the trial of August 21 grenade attack as many other trials are going on, she added.
Hasina said Khaleda Zia’s party BNP was defeated in the election and also in politics. “Why do people will cast their votes for them in the future?” she questioned.
She said BNP and its allies have got scared seeing the pace of development in the country under the current government. “They know it very well people will never cast their votes for them.”
Hasina called upon the pro-liberation forces, including the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League, who want a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, to take united stance to maintain the existing pace of development and uphold the victory flag.
She said the Bengali nation was honoured once in 1971 which was tarnished in 1975 after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
After assuming power in 2009, her government again established its prestigious position in the world community through holding the trial of the war criminals, killers of Bangabandhu, maintaining steady GDP growth, and making stunning development in different sectors, she said.
To maintain and uphold the dignity of Bangladesh in the international community, Awami League should be voted to power again, she said.
Criticising BNP and its allies for unleashing barbaric atrocities on people, especially the supporters of Bangladesh Awami League, in 2001 she said these atrocities could only be compared to that of Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.
