Khaleda confined for eighth day

Staff Reporter :BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed eighth day of her confinement on Saturday at her Gulshan office in the city. She has been kept confined to the office since January 3 night. Two pick-up vans and water cannon, which were kept in front of the office since January 4 midnight, are still there. Law enforcers, including female and plainclothes ones, are also there. However, the main gate of the office has been unlocked.Having failed to come out of the office on January 5 to join a planned rally in the city, the BNP Chairperson announced the ongoing countrywide non-stop blockade programme from January 6. Khaleda Zia is now well. She fell sick due to the impact of pepper spray that was used by police on January 5 on the premises of her office when she was trying to come out of the office to join the planned rally. Former cabinet secretary Abdul Halim, who is also an adviser of the BNP chairperson, said that Khaleda Zia is now well. He said this after visiting the BNP chief on Saturday evening. He along with some other former bureaucrats visited the Gulshan office. Meanwhile, Tahsina Rushdir Luna, wife of missing BNP leader M Elias Ali, along with her offsprings visited Khaleda Zia at the office. Earlier some woman leaders led by Mahila Dal president Nur-e-Ara Safa entered the office and met Khaleda Zia.
