Ehsanul Haque Jasim :The question has been raised by BNP men, as to who are behind the dissident leaders and workers of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the party? The dissidents are against the new committee of the organisation. According to the insiders, some influential BNP leaders, who are mainly holding posts in the Dhaka city unit committee, backed the dissidents and fueled them for the demonstration. Name of a particular detained leader is also being discussed in this regard. Some former JCD leaders also played a role to instigate the demonstration. Even some leaders of the new committee are behind the movement, as they did not get expected positions. The unhappy JCD men have been continuing the demonstration since the declaration of the new committee. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on October 14 approved a 201-member partial committee with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan general secretary. During their demonstration, the JCD men locked the party office, chased BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and also engaged in serious clash. Sources say that the patrons of the dissidents are now frustrated, as the superemo has taken strong position in favour of the declared committee. Khaleda Zia held meeting with some leaders of her party to discuss the issue. Some of the leaders, who are behind the dissidents, also attended the meeting. Sources said that the BNP chief expressed her dissatisfaction over the present situation and asked the leaders to tackle the situation. The names of Dhaka city BNP Convener Mirza Abbas, the party Joint Secretary General Aman Ullah Aman and the detained leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintoo are being heard in the discussion as the patrons. Mentioning the names, a JCD leader, seeking anonymity, on Monday told The New Nation that the leaders were behind the demonstration, as their blessed disciples have been deprived of getting posts in the central committee. They also fear that their followers may also be excluded from the committees of other important units, including Dhaka University, Dhaka city north and south and Jagannath University. For this reason, they influenced the unhappy JCD men, he added.  However, Khaleda Zia especially asked Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas to tackle the situation without delay. Being assigned, the two leaders sat with some other central leaders of the party to discuss the strategy. They also sat with the dissidents and asked them to accept the new committee declared by the party supremo.  Mirza Abbas said, the JCD is a big organisation and it is usual that discontentment will remain among the post-deprived leaders. “The situation will be normal soon, as we are working to convince the dissidents,” he said. Sources said that Mirza Abbas changed his stance following the order of Khaleda Zia. He on Monday held meeting with his some blessed disciples in his residence and asked them to be flexible. BNP leaders, however, put the blame on the government, saying that the agents of the government in the JCD attacked the party office and they are behind the dissidents. The new committee leaders echoed the same. Aggrieved JCD leaders alleged that two BNP leaders Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and Sultan Salauddin Tuku, who were assigned by Khaleda Zia to form the central committee, had included many in the new committee in exchange of money. Meanwhile, the movement of the dissident JCD men also raised question, as they are now more active on the streets and can attack on the party office, but where they were during the movement against the Januray-5 election? Did they respond to call of Khaleda Zia during the March for Democracy in December?
