BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia applied for a machine readable passport (MRP) to Agargaon passport office on Thursday.
Khaleda, who had long been using red passport for holding the portfolios of the prime minister thrice and leader of the opposition in parliament twice, went to the passport office around 4:37pm for applying for an MRP.
Later, she along with her party’s vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka entered the room of the Dhaka divisional passport office director and submitted the form and completed the due processes for having the MRP.
She left the passport office for her Gulshan residence around 5pm.
The BNP chief lost her last official portfolio as the opposition leader after the January 5 national election amid the boycott of it by her party.
Meanwhile, several hundred BNP leaders and leaders and activists thronged the passport office area since noon and welcomed their party chief standing besides the road in front of the passport office, creating huge traffic congestions in and around the area.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Jamiruddin Sircar, vice chairman Alataf Hossain Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, joint secretaries general Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, chairperson’s adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Dhaka city unit member secretary Abdus Salam, Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Swechchhasebak Dal president Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel were, among others, present.
