Arson case: Khaleda, 37 others charge-sheeted

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Tuesday evening submitted the charge-sheet against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia and 37 others in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka in a case filed for arson attack on a bus in Jatrabari area of the capital that killed one person and burned at least 31 people. DB Sub-Inspector Jahidul Islam submitted the charge-sheet to the court. Other accused persons include, BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and MK Anwar, Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman, Joint-Secretaries Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Aman Ullah Aman and Barkat Ullah Bulu, Advisor to the Chairperson Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Showkat Mahmud, Special Assistant to the Chairperson Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Dhaka City Member-Secretary Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel.
On the night of January 23, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a bus of Glory Paribahan at Jatrabari that left 31 passengers burned. Later one of them, Nure Alam, 60, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on February 1.
The following day, Sub-Inspector K M Nuruzzaman of Jatrabari Police Station filed a case against Khaleda Zia and 49 other BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam leaders and activists.
