Noted Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil performed at a solo classical musical soiree at Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct, the Bengal Foundation’s newest cultural venue, organised by Bengal Foundation on Friday.
The performance was a part of the ongoing exhibition, entitled Second Sight, of selected paintings and drawings by SM Sultan from the private collection of Abul Khair. The performance was taken place in the exhibition-space, surrounded by works by SM Sultan.
In the musical evening, Shakil was accompanied by Iftekhar Alam Prodhan (Tabla), Bijon Chandra Mistry (Harmonium) and Rukhsana Karim Kanan (Tanpura).
In the event, Shakil mainly presented raga-based music. At first, the artist performed Behag Vilambit Bandish raga on Ektaal and Druto Bandish on Teentaal. The second performance was Rageshree Druto Bandish raga on Teentaal and finally another Bandish on the same raga on Ektaal.
SM Sultan is known to have had a deep love for classical music, a form of art that was a source of inspiration for his paintings. The artist was also an accomplished musician, himself.
