The seasons curtain raiser KFC Independence Day Football tournament organised by Bangladesh Football Federation will kick-off from April 1 .
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) was forced on Tuesday to defer the start of the KFC Independence Cup which was scheduled to begin Wednesday.
On the inaugural day two matches will be played at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
This decision was taken yesterday at a meeting of the professional football league committee, which stated the reason behind the deferment as “unavoidable circumstances”.
However, the insider informed BSS that BFF took the decision in the wake of a Sheikh Jamal writ petition to the high court, which directed the BFF president and general secretary not to allow eight players [who signed for different clubs during the transfer window] to play for any teams except Sheikh Jamal.
Though there is no legal bar on the start of the tournament, the clubs who roped in those eight players don’t want to take part in the tournament without their players and the BFF was forced to defer it by two days, said a BFF official on the condition of anonymity.
The BFF would start legal procedures to stay that order today, the official added.
