 A number of key positions remaining vacant, some for years, has stalled academic and administrative activities at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.
The university opened on Monday after summer holidays in absence of vice-chancellor, pro-vice chancellor, treasurer and controller of examinations, said the registrar, Mohammad Ibrahim Kabir.
Former vice-chancellor AKM Nurunnabi retired on May 5 while the post of Pro?Vice?Chancellor has been vacant since the inception of the university in 2008.
The posts of treasurer and controller of examinations fell vacant few years ago, added the treasurer.
BRU proctor Mir Tamanna Siddique said the absence of the top brass, particularly of the Vice? Chancellor, is about to choke the academic and administrative activities of the university.
Journalism and Mass Communication assistant professor Tabiur Rhaman Pradhan said financial approvals, syndicate meeting , education leave of the teachers , promotions, withdrawal of certificates and result publications were hampered badly due to the absence of the VC and Pro?Vc.
Professor Nurunnabi held fourteen posts, including pro-vice chancellor, treasurer, controller of examinations, deans of three faculties and heads of some departments beside his routine duty, said TabiurRahman.
Assistant controller Firuzul Islam said students were going to face severe problem as results would not be published without approval of the Vice? Chancellor.
Registrar Mohammad Ibrahim Kabir said, ‘We are trying to perform the routine administrative and academic activities amid the crisis. But many of the major decisions and activities became stalled and were hampered due to the absence of the Vice? Chancellor.
