Kevin Steele, the first foreign managing director and chief executive officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines who quit his post in January last, left here for home on Saturday morning.
As Steele has quit, Biman Director (Customer Services) AM Mosaddique Ahmed has been given the charge of the managing director and chief executive officer of the national flag carrier.
Steele was appointed the managing director and chief executive officer of Biman in March last year on a two-year contract.
But on January this year he submitted his resignation citing medical reasons, which the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Biman accepted last month with effect from April 17.
Earlier, there was a move to allow Kevin Steele to continue his job for a couple of months more until Biman finds his a successor, but that move did not succeed.
Both the Biman Board and the outgoing Biman MD agreed on the issue.
Steele informed Biman that he might continue his work on a part-time basis, but he has decided to leave on his doctor’s advice to reduce his workload as he has got infected with tuberculosis and suffered a mild heart attack after coming to Bangladesh, according to Biman Bangladesh Airlines sources.
For the first time in Biman history, Kevin Steele, a foreign national, joined the national carrier on March 13 at a monthly salary of Tk 18.3 lakh.
On April 9, Biman put a job vacancy advertisement in different newspapers, inviting deserving Bangladeshis and foreign nationals to apply for the job of Biman MD and CEO.
