A meeting between Chattogram district administration and port city-based leading importers, whole sellers and retailers urged businessmen to keep the prices of essentials at a tolerable range during the coming holy Ramadan.
Mohammad Ilias Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram, directed both wholesale and retail traders to pull publicly price lists of essential commodities at the supply centers of wholesale traders and display both lists of wholesale and retail price at respective retail shops.
Speaking at the function, Ismail Hossain said that the monitoring cells will be revived and just prices of essential commodities would be shown by hanging their price lists at import, wholesale and retail markets during Ramadan. The DC warned of stern action against those who would try to manipulate the supply and prices of commodities during the period.
Members of business community of Chattogram informed the administration that there are huge stocks of essential commodities in Chattogram and as such no reasons to increase prices of essential commodities ahead of Ramadan.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman, Addit-ional District Magistrate Mashudul Kabir, Vice President of Chittagong chamber of Commerce and Industries Sayed Jamal Ahmed, President of Consumer Association of Bangladesh S M Najer Hossain, among others, participated in the view-exchanging.
