In Bangladesh, summers are very hot. It is very important to take proper diet in summers to keep the body cool and keep diseases like dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea etc at bay. This article suggests food and healthy diet to keep you cool in summers. So include these food items in your daily diet and beat the Bangladeshi summers.
Summertime and the living are easy — that is, until you notice the havoc all that fun in the sun has wrought on your body. One eye-opening study found that kids gain weight three times faster over summer than they do the rest of the school year, thanks to a steady diet of junk food and video/computer games. Getting the right nutrition remains important during the summer to combat obesity and child hunger and to keep children’s maturing brains healthy. Summer time can often be a free-for-all when it comes to children and their eating habits. One challenge many parents face during the long, hot summer days is ensuring their children stay hydrated. It is often difficult to get children to drink plain water, but they might be more apt to try fruit-flavored water. Have children pick out different fruits, chop them up and put them in a pitcher of iced water and then wait for the fruity flavor to seep into the water.
As a dietitian and nutrition editor I love that there’s an abundance of fresh, delicious and healthy choices. Better yet: many of summer’s fruits and vegetables are brimming with secret health benefits. So let’s go I will help you to find out which healthy foods and drinks to add to your diet this summer. Here are the summer foods you should always avoid, and healthier options you can feel free to enjoy. Here I suggest some diet tips to beat the summer heat.
Water is the best option to quench thirst. It is a key ingredient in keeping the body cool. This prevents the body from releasing heat in an efficient manner. This is why it is necessary to hydrate and drink water, even when you are not thirsty. Avoid caffeinated or carbonated beverages, alcoholic beverages, and those high in sugar. They do not really help cool you down in summers, though they make you cool for some time. Tulsi seeds in your drinks have very cooling effect on the body. Drink lemon juice, coconut water to replenish the fluids that are lost in sweat.
Vegetables is vital to maintain your body’s water levels in the heat, not just by drinking fluids, but also choosing foods that contain a lot of water. Bananas are a rich source of potassium, which helps to regulate body fluid lost through excessive sweating in summer. There’s no question that sunscreen should be your first line of defense against the blazing summer sun. But eating Tomatoes could give you a little extra protection. Curd is a popular food item for summer season. Any curd based dish is effective to keep you cool in summers. Watermelon, litchis contain high levels of water and helps keep your body cool (by sweating) during hot summer months.
Fruit with yoghurt/Curd is an ideal combination for snacks in really hot weather. Coconut Water is a super drink. It has the same electrolyte concentration as in our blood and so it gets absorbed very fast during summer.
You should reduce intake of heavy vegetables and fruits, like spinach, radish, onions, garlic, pineapple, grapefruit and ripe mangoes. Cut the intake of fried foods like samosas, chips, bhajias, etc. Do not eat spicy, hot and extremely salty food as they are hard to digest and will have ill effects on the skin during summer.
You sweat more in the summer, so skin is less supple; plus, saltwater and chlorine has a drying effect. Help heal weathered skin with foods like strawberries, Lemon and all citrus fruit which are rich in antioxidants A, C & E. Muscle cramps in summer result from overexertion and dehydration. When you don’t have enough fluid in your system, it leads to an electrolyte imbalance that causes your muscles to cramp up.
Excessive heat, for instance, can seriously upset the body, causing irritability, sleep problems, exhaustion and lack of concentration, among other things. But food and drink have a big part to play in helping your body keep cool and healthy during the heat.
Now you have fairly good idea of food that keeps you cool in summers. So you need not to be afraid of the Bangladeshi hot summer season. Include this kind of food and drink items (mentioned above) in your daily diet and you will definitely feel the difference. So have fun this summer! n
