UNB, Dhaka :
Terming BNP-Jamaat Pakistan’s collaborators, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged all to remain alert so that this quarter cannot return to power to play with people’s fate.
“We all have to remain vigilant so that those Pakistani collaborators can’t get back to power, kill people and play with the fate of the mass people,” she told a discussion meeting.
Awami League organised the discussion meeting at Krishibid Institution in the city, marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day.
The Prime Minister urged people to take a vow to materialise the dreams of the millions of martyrs by building a modern and prosperous Bangladesh where there will be no hunger and poverty. “We’ll have to build the country with the spirit of their dreams and the Liberation War ethos,” she said.
The government is working to that direction, and will turn the country into Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina said. Branding BNP as the companion of war criminals, Hasina, also the Awami League chief, said, “It’s the nature of BNP to help the war criminals as its founder Ziaur Rahman had stopped their trial.”
In this connection, the AL president said Bangabandhu had started the trial of the war criminals just after the country’s independence, but, after the change in the political scenario in 1975, Ziaur Rahman stopped it by promulgating an ordinance. “He had also rehabilitated the war criminals in Bangladesh politics,” she said.
The discussion meeting was held with Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury in the chair.
Addressing the programme, the Prime Minister also said Khaleda Zia had patronised the killers when she was in power following her husband’s footsteps.
In this connection, she mentioned that Khaleda made Bangabandhu’s killers MPs and even the opposition leader. “She also made Al Badr chief Nizami a minister. It seems that patronising the killers, saving the killers and awarding the killers were her only task while in power.”
Hasina said, the BNP chief held rallies recently to save the war criminals while their trial is going on and the government executing the court verdicts one after another.
