The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) workers cleaned the entire city within 36 hours after slaughtering of the sacrificial animals on Eid day.
The KCC sources said over 2000 workers have been engaged to remove the wastes of the sacrificial animals in the city.
The workers have started their cleanliness since 11.00 am on the Eid day that continued till Wednesday midnight.
The authority appointed several vigilance teams to inspect the drive in 31 wards of the KCC and opened a control room to conduct the operations. Besides, around 60 trucks, 10 container movers, 15 trolleys and 50 vans were on the city streets to remove the wastes.
KCC workers sprayed bleaching powders in the places of slaughtering of sacrificial animals in the city to remove the odor. Besides, a shower of rain in the morning on Eid day also helps removing the bad smells of the animals’ wastages.
Earlied, KCC authorities have fixed a total of 160 slaughtering spots at 31 wards and conducted a campaign among the city dwellers to ensure an environment friendly city during Eid-ul-Azha.
Acting Mayor of KCC Anisur Rahman Biswas visited different areas of the city on Wednesday to watch the cleanliness drive of the KCC workers. Acting mayor Anisur Rahman said, “City dwellers have sacrificed around 9,244 sacrificial animals during the Eid-ul-Azha. It was a hard task to clean the city within 36 hours, but the workers had done the job.”
Terming a total of Tk 1.73 crore has earned as revenue from only cattle market of KCC, the Mayor expressed his satisfaction over revenue collection as well as the cleanless drive conducted by the KCC workers.
