Police have pressed charges against 52 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, including Khulna City Corporation mayor M Moniruzzaman Moni and city BNP president former MP Nazrul Islam Manju, in a case filed for attacking cops and vandalising vehicles.
Sub-inspector Kazi Mostaque Ahmed, second officer of Sadar Police Station and the investigation officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on April 30 last. However, the matter was disclosed only on Wednesday night.
The others named in the chargesheet include city Jamaat assistant secretary
councillor Advocate Jahangir Hossain Helal, city Khelafat Majlish general secretary Maulana Nasir Uddin, central Jubo Dal leader councillor Sheikh Gausal Azam and councillor KM Humayun Kabir.
According to the case statement, the activists of the 20-party alliance blasted crude bombs and vandalised vehicles at the Power House intersection of the city on November 26, 2013. They also attacked policemen as the law enforcers went there to disperse them.
Sib-inspector Anukul Chandra filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
