Khulna Mayor (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque today underscored the need for dredging of rivers, saying successful result would not get in construction of high embankment without enhancing rivers navigability.
He said coastal people now can’t find advantages from embankment, constructed like in sixty’s and smooth rivers navigation is imperative for sustainable embankment.
The KCC mayor made the comment today at an advocacy meeting styled ‘Embankment: Ensuring Environmental Sustainability, Transparency, Quality and Timeless in Maintenance, Repair and New Construction,’ held at the journalist Humayun Kabir Balu auditorium at Khulna Press Club.
Rupantar, a non government organization(NGO), organized the meeting in cooperation with CARE, Bangladesh.
Stressing the need of regular dredging, the KCC Mayor underscored the need for strengthening role of public representatives as well as local government for river protection and durable embankment.
