Farmers of Kamalbazar Union are becoming financially solvent by cultivating Kazla Brinjal land in a short time as the crop give them comparatively more profit. People cultivate Kazla Brinjal on fallow lands and in the premises of their homeyard. Moreover, many farmers used to cultivate Kazla Brinjal on commercial basis.
Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Sylhet said, Kazla Brinjal cultivation is more profitable than other crops as it produces in plenty and sells well while profit margin is satisfactory to growers.
Dakshin Surma Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO), said to the AA, 30 hectares of land have been brought under Brinjal cultivation in Upazila of the district and 05 hectares for Kazla Brinjal . Many farmers have changed their lots by growing Kazla Brinjal.
This correspondent visited different areas of kamalbazar Sadar recently and saw farmers are working in their Kazla Brinjal fields with much enthusiasm.According to Kazla Brinjal farmers, five to six thousand taka is needed to cultivate Kazla Brinjal on one bigha of land, the timeframe of sowing to production of Kazla Brinjal is Bangla month of Magh to Joistho. At the beginning of the season, Kazla Brinjal is selling at taka 22 – 25 per kg and taka 880 – 1000 per mon as wholesale price from their home, In retail price, at taka 30 – 35 per kg and taka 1000 – 1400 per mon in the local market.
During the whole season, Kazla Brinjal may be plucked one time in a week from land. Most of the farmers termed Kazla Brinjal as a profitable vegetable. Excessive rain and flood are the main obstacles of the vegetables.
