Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a death row offender in connection with the killings of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Kazi Aref Ahmed and four other leaders of the party at Rajshahi on Wednesday night.
The accused was identified as Roushan alias Ali alias Uday Mondol.
ASP ANM Imran Khan, Senior Assistant Director, Legal and Media Wing of RAB headquarters, confirmed the matter to the media saying that “Roushan remained on the run after the several sensational murder incidents. But at last it was possible to arrest him after continued drive. The convict has been brought to the RAB HQ in Dhaka city, he added.
According to RAB press briefing, the convict Roushan Ali alias Uday Mondol was a serial killer. He fled to Rajshahi hiding his identity despite being a death convict. And since then he had been hiding for 22 years.
Going there, he changed his name and identity and made a national identity card called Uday Mondol at Gazipur. He is the fugitive accused in the murder case of school teacher Amjad on June 21, 2000.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the RAB’s law and Media Wing, said it at a press conference at the RAB’s Media Center in Kawranbazar on Thursday. Kazi Aref, an organiser of Bangladesh Liberation War, and member of Swadhin Bangla Nucleus Cell, was killed along with four Kushtia JSD unit leaders after a rally at Kalidaspur in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district on February 16, 1999.
