Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq expressed his hope that the wholesale market of Karwan Bazar would be shifted to Jatrabari and Gabtoli within several months.
The DNCC mayor came up with the remarks while talking to reporters near Hasina Market, which was almost fully burnt out due to a devastating fire on Sunday night.
At least 178 various types of whole shops were gutted in the fire incident that started at around 7:55 pm on Sunday evening and it was under control after two hours frantic effort as 26 fire fighter units from various fire stations went to the spot phases. Talking to reporters, the DNCC mayor said they have over last eight months been negotiating with the traders of Karwan Bazar to shift the market in two other places. There was a positive outcome of the negotiation, he said.
“We have two ready markets-one in Jatrabari and another in Gabtali. We hope we will be able to shift the market to the two ready markets within next several months,” Annisul Huq said.
Earlier the fire broke out at 7.55 pm and it soon raged through the market, located just behind Janata Tower on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, burning down a good number of shops.
