Weekend Plus Desk :
‘Kashmir : History and Politics’ is a new book based on history placed in the National Book Fair of 2017. Sucheepatra publication made this book as the ‘theme book’ of their stall in this Ekushey Book Fair.
Young researcher and journalist Zakaria Polash wrote this book after spending two years time in Kashmir, the Heaven of the Earth.
Zakaria Polash achieved his MA degree in ‘Kashmir and South Asia Studies’ from the University of Kashmir. He stayed at Srinagar in Kashmir for two years. During that time apart from the study he wrote the book.
He has exclusively detailed the backdrop of the conflict on Kashmir between India and Pakistan and the internal dynamics to it. Zakaria has rigorously explained both Secular and Islamic politics of Kashmir and the discontents of them in dealing with the complex crisis. Along with the conflict situation, he narrated the human history of Kashmir.
The Kashmiri language and its links with Bengali, Kashmiri folk songs are presented beautifully in the volume. Zakaria further illuminated the political-economic angle of the conflict, minority-majority relations and the practice of political Islam and Marxist politics in Kashmir.
Most interestingly, how Kashmiris look at Bangladesh is explained with all beautiful examples.
The book has been published by the Sucheepatra Publication this month. Sucheepatra declared the book as their theme book of their stall in the fair. 204 paged book contains 22 chapters and pricing Tk 400. During the fair, readers will get 25% concession from the amount. The book will be available at the stall no: 619-21 in the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2017.
Zakaria Polash said, ‘This has been done after a hard work. It talks of the human history and life of Kashmiris rather than the aesthetics of nature. So, it’s basically ethnography. I call it a political ethnography.’
The publisher of the book Mr Saeed Bari said, “This is a unique book. It is the only Bengali book, in fact, that is explaining everything of the Kashmir crisis with valid and reliable data.” n
