Dr Karunamoy Goswami, eminent musicologist, litterateur, researcher and educationist, was cremated on Monday afternoon at his ancestral home in Narayanganj district three days after he breathed his last at his DOHS residence in the city.
The cremation was performed in line with religious rituals after music connoisseurs, disciples, cultural figures and a huge number of admirers paid their rich tributes to Goswami at Bangla Academy and Central Shaheed Minar in the city.
The body was kept at Bangla Academy at 10 am for over an hour and then brought to the Shaheed Minar on Monday so the people could have their last glimpses of the leading musicologist, particularly known as Nazrul exponent.
On behalf of Awami League, it’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Bangla Academy Chairman Anisuzzaman paid rich tributes to the Ekuhey Padak recipient Goswami by placing wreaths on his coffin.
Wreaths were also offered to him at the scenes by Shilpakala Academy, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Nazrul Institute and several other cultural groups.
