BSS, Dhaka :
Indian wicket keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik termed Bangladesh as a very good one-day unit and showed a lot of respect before the first match against the Tigers.
He was talking the reporters after the practice session on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. “Bangladesh is a fantastic one-day team.
They had a couple of close games against Sri Lanka. Everybody knows that they are a very good one-day unit. But we will try our best and come out on top and win the tournament,” he said the newsmen.
He said Tamim and Shakib are major players for Bangladesh. They are going to be replaced by two peoples who we may not know much. Definitely we all know they are a good one- day side and we will give them a lot of respect. Having said that, we will go all guns blazing and do our best.
He said it’s a big tournament for all of them. It’s going to be exciting for all the young players in the team, so they would are really looking forward to it. Asked his role in the match he said “honestly, I have not thought which spot I would be playing or which part of the innings I’m going to be playing.
I’m sure we will have a few discussion going into the game, tomorrow. I will have a better idea tomorrow.” Asked about Raina, Yuvi’s absence in the team Karthik said: “I’ve been around in the scene for sometime. Given the opportunity, I will try and use whatever little experience I’ve had and bat to the best of my ability.
Having said that quite a few guys have played 100 games which is a lot of experience now. They have been playing now for a year or two. They have been given a good run. Obviously everybody will pull in their experience whatever little that we have, go out there and give it our best shot.”
Asked recent poor performance losing six matches in eight games, Karthik said “actually, you should have asked this question to somebody who’s part of this eight ODIs.
From an outsider point of view, I’m coming into this team fresh… As an individual I can talk of my perspective and say that for me it’s going to be exciting. I’m sure it’s the same for all the players.
But somebody who has played the eight games will answer this question much better.”
