Speakers in a two-day boat rally yesterday called for saving the river Karnaphuli from pollution.Chattagram Anchalik Sangskritik Academy organized the two-day-long program to raise massive awareness to protect the River Karnaphuli. The rally was participated by nearly 70 sampans (traditional country-made boat) from Abhoymitra Ghat area around 11am.
The rally ended at Sadarghat area after parading ghats in the Karnaphuli river around 12.30pm.
Apart from local elites and representatives from different non-government and private organisations, leaders of different professional bodies, socio-cultural organisations, environmentalists participated in the rally. After the rally, they arranged a discussion meeting conducted by the Academy chairman Aliur Rahman.
A traditional Sampan race will be held on the second day of the function today . Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner Mohammad Iqbal Bahar will inaugurate the race while Chittagong Development Auhtority Chairman Abdus Salam will attend the rally as the chief guest.
