Kamruzzaman Bablu :
The state-owned specialised Karmasangsthan Bank is set to build a 30-storey building at an estimated cost of Tk300 crore from the government financing.
“The plan to construct the high rise has been undertaken as per the prime minister’s desire,” said a top executive of the bank.
Contacted, Karmasangsthan Bank Managing Director Abdur Rouf said: “The building will be constructed at its existing head office space at Rajuk Avenue in the city as the existing establishment will be demolished.”
Although building plan has already been approved, it will take sometime to start construction since the building of the now-defunct Dainik Bangla press will have to be removed, he added.
Apart from that, the head offices of seven state-owned financial organisations will be housed in the proposed building as they don’t have own infrastructure, according to the government decision.
The organisations are Probashi Kallyan Bank, Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, ICB, Palli Sanchoy Bank, Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund, Agrani SME financing company.
Although the land is owned by Karmasangsthan Bank, those seven organisations will be accommodated in the proposed building free of cost as per the government decision.
Karmasangsthan Bank demands that its floors be sold to other organisations.
Earlier, government bought the 36.24 decimal land with infrastructure at Rajuk Avenue from Dainik Bangla-Times Trust in the year 2011 and allocated to the Karmasangsthan Bank. The value of the asset was Tk13.17 crore. The current market price of the asset is around Tk50 crore, according to the government evaluation.
