At one time Kapasia in Gazipur was a town of cotton. Kapasia was a major producer of cotton. In recent times, Kapasia has become famous for its seasonal fruits. If the state of litchi is Kapasia, then the capital of that litchi state is Raniganj of Durgapur union of Kapasia upazila. Two types of litchi are cultivated in Kapasia. Bellary and Bombay. The Bombay variety of litchi begins to ripen soon after the end of the Bellary variety. Bellary Bombay Litchis differ in shape and taste, but the two varieties are unique in their own right.
