Kangso River erosion takes serious turn in Netrakona

People of Chorpara area under Barhatta upazila of the district have been living with panic as erosion of Kangso River has taken a serious turn for the last one week.
Local people said about one hundred houses of three villages-Kornopur, Chorpara and Paspai-under Raypur union of Barhatta upazila in the district are on the verge of existence.
They urged authorities concerned to take immediate measures to save their houses, land, mosques, educational institutions and kitchen markets from the erosion.
Our correspondent during a visit in the area yesterday found that a big portion of land adjoining to the Takurakona-Fakirerbazar road has already been eroded away by the river.
Chairman of Raypur Union Parishad Atiqur Rahman Raju said he has already informed authorities concerned about the erosion and requested them to take measures to check the erosion immediately.
The UP chairman Raju informed that several hundreds of houses at different villages under the Raypur union have been eroded away by the river during the last two years.
Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) of Netrakona Abu Taher said, “We have already informed higher authorities to take appropriate measures to check the erosion as soon as possible.” Executive Engineer of LGED of Netrakona Ismot Kibria said “We are taking necessary measures on an emergency basis for protecting the Takurakona – Fakirer Bazar road from the erosion”.
