At least 3000 poor patients received free health consultancy, medicine and laboratory tests from specialist doctors in a free medical camp, organised by voluntary organisation KAMPS on Thursday.
Aiming to pay tribute to the language martyrs in marking the World Mother Language Day-2019 in a different way, the non-profit organization Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) arranged the day-long free medical camp and health education fair at ‘Talim Ghar’, Hatibandha village, Shakhipur Thana in Tangail.
KAMPS has arranged this programme in continuation of the last 14 years on the same day and same venue with an aim to provide healthcare and humanitarian support to the poor and ultra poor patients in Tangail and adjacent areas.
Patients were invited to have enrolled completing necessary lab tests at the temporary lab of KAMPS set up at ‘Talim Ghar’ from the 20 days before the camp. The enlisted patients were treated by a team of 35-40 member expert Doctors, technicians and were distributed with necessary medicines free of cost on Thursday.
As part of the daylong free medical camp, a seminar styled “Healthy Kidney for all and everywhere” was held at the camp premises.
MP of Tangail-8 Constituency, Adv Joaherul Islam (VP Joaher) attended as Chief Guest while Deputy Commissioner of Tangail Md. Shahidul Islam presided over the seminar.
Founder and President of KAMPS, also Chief Consultant of the BRB Hospitals Limited, Prof Dr. MA Samad presented keynote paper in the seminar.
Around 300 eye patients were enrolled in the camp who will later be brought to Dhaka for their cataract surgery free of cost by KAMPS.
Renowned Business personality, social worker and Chairman of BRB Group, Md. Majibur Rahman formally inaugurated the medical camp early on the day.
Addressing in the seminar, Adv. Joaherul Islam MP said organizing such a humanistic program is certainly a praiseworthy work which has helped the poor patients a lot in getting specialized treatment.
He urged the affluent class of people to stand by any humanitarian causes of the poor segment of people. In the keynote speech, Prof. Samad said Diabetes is the most harmful disease in the current civilized world which lead many of the patients to affect their kidney. Diabetes cause the fatal non-communicable diseases in the people’s body. Currently 80 lakhs of people of the country are Diabetes patient, due to lack of awareness and sound life style, this disease can easily affect us.
Prof. Samad said in light with the current year’s theme of the World Kidney Day, we all have to come forward with a combined effort to prevent the kidney disease, government, NGOs and other private sector players all together we have to formulate an effective program to raise awareness and implement it strictly.
Civil Surgeon of Tangail, Dr. Sharif Hossain Khan, former skipper of the national cricket team, Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, District Governor, District-315 B2, Bangladesh, Ashfaqur Rahman MJF, Chairman of Shakhipur Upazilla Parisad, Alhaj Shawkat Shikder, UNO of Shakhipur, Tangail, Md. Aminur Rahman, First Vice District Governor, District-315B2, Bangladesh, Mobarak Hossain MJF, Principal, Kumidini Women’s Medical College Hospital, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Halim and Managing Director of KAMPS, Nasrin Begum also spoke on the occasion.
Managing Director of KAMPS, Narsin begum said they have been organizing this medical camp and health education fair for the last 14 years to distribute healthcare and medicine to the poor patients in Tangail completely free of charges with the spirit of the Language martyrs in the core of heart.
